Sunningdale Stars Quiz Triumph

   |   By

On Friday 3 December a team from 1st Sunningdale (Sarah, Hannah, Matthew, Gill, Graham, Micky, Hilary & Dave) joined the 1st South Ascot Quiz Night. We called our team “The Sunningdale Stars”, hoping not to come last, so no one was more surprised than we were, that we won!!

We are now the proud holders of the silver-ish stag’s head trophy (in Micky’s left hand) for the next 12 months!

It was a very successful fund-raising event for 1st South Ascot and a great night was had by all.

Caving and Abseiling

   |   By

The Explorers are back from a weekend of caving and abseiling in the Mendip hills. We had a great time down the dry caves of Goatchurch Cavern, near Cheddar Gorge, squeezing through very tight spaces – some of us managed the famous ‘drainpipe’ route. Then we moved to the wet Swildons Hole – a tricky caving system, with spectacular caverns, rock formations and full-on roped descents (and ascents) of waterfalls. The drama only increased when we found a lost caver, who had to join our party to get safely to the surface.

Remembrance

   |   By

This week our theme at Cubs was Remembrance. We walked down to Holy Trinity Church to see the War Memorial and look at the War Graves in the churchyard. Reverend Jon showed us the plaques inside the Church and the Cubs lit a candle in remembrance. Ahead of Sunday’s parade the Cubs also got “crafty” making poppies using paper plates, torn up pieces of red tissue paper and circles of black glitter. Each Cub wrote their name on a leaf and once it was all dry, Katy created two very impressive wreaths. We finished the session by investing four new Cubs – Thomas Bui, Etta Rose, Oscar Heimann and Jack Tunnah.

1st Sunningdale’s October Quiz night at Holy Trinity Church was a night of gastronomic delights and cerebral challenges.

With over 168 attendees, across 21 teams, the Scout group was able to raise an impressive £3,919 for its ‘New Hut’ project, whilst also contributing to the church’s ‘Transforming Trinity’ project.

Eco Cubs

   |   By

This week’s session was all about the environment and several of the Cubs made pledges as to what they could do to help – see photo.  We also did blind tastings of plant-based versions of some Cub favourites (cocktail sausages, mild cheddar, pepperoni, chicken slices, milk).

It’s fair to say, although some of the Cubs enjoyed tasting the plant-based versions, the vast majority were much less keen, and judging by their reactions (ew! yuck! gross! slimy!) we won’t be making significant changes to our camp menus anytime soon 😊!  On the bright side, they did make some good windmills!

Beavers and Cubs attend the Harvest Festival Service

   |   By

There was a good representation of Beavers and Cubs at the Harvest Festival service this morning at Holy Trinity Church, Sunningdale. Harry King and Oscar Whittaker (both Cubs) took part in the service, saying prayers and doing one of the readings, whilst the Beavers made a bright turquoise line as they took our supermarket vouchers up to the collection baskets.

The collection will be shared between the Bracknell Food Bank and the church’s own Food Bank, which was created and has been running successfully since the first lockdown.

Well done Beavers and Cubs!
