Five young adults, aged 18–24-years-old, were selected by Scout HQ to take part in Coronation duties, either at Westminster or at the concert in St James’s Park. In addition, Oscar, an Explorer Scout from 1st Sunningdale, was chosen as one of 50 members of the honorary King Charles III Unit, attending the Coronation at St Margaret’s Church, the parliamentary church next to Westminster Abbey.
Proudly wearing his gold and green neckerchief, Oscar was privileged to be part of the special event – and can be seen in the video clip below. The King and Queen chose three youth organisations to be present at the Coronation, and Oscar was one of the lucky 50 who were chosen.
Following a preparation day at Gilwell Park, the home of Scouting, the group left for London on Saturday morning to enjoy breakfast with the Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace. Then, it was off to St Margaret’s for the spectacular ceremony. What a special moment for Oscar, who has been with 1st Sunningdale since he was a Beaver Scout and who is an active volunteer within our county.
